We met through our mutual hobby of marching with the White Sabres Drum & Bugle Corps. James was a trumpet player and I was in the colorguard. We developed a friendship and soon discovered that we had a lot more in common than just drum corps. We were both passionate about health and fitness, reading and traveling and often took the opportunity to explore new areas together while traveling to competitions each weekend. When the summer ended, I returned to Binghamton to finish up my senior year and James moved to Rochester to pursue a job opportunity, but we decided to try to make long distance work against all odds. Stick around to see if it did or not ;)
We were on vacation in New Hampshire. James planned an easy morning hike for us and promised me "the best view in the Northeast". He did not disappoint! When we got to the top of Mt. Willard, James told me to look out at the view so he could take my picture. When I turned back around he was down on one knee. I don't remember if he asked me anything, I might have said YES before he had a chance to! Side story: that wasn't my only surprise that day... my sister drove up from Rhode Island and hiked to the top disguised in a blonde wig and sunglasses so she could capture "the big moment"!
As many of you know, even though we had to postpone our wedding festivities, we still got married on our original date. We held an intimate ceremony in the Adirondack Mountains and were married by my Maid of Honor/Sister and James's Best Man surrounded by immediate family, some close friends and of course our two pups. Although it wasn't what we had originally envisioned, we wouldn't change a thing.
