Travel Note
If you’re going to be driving to our wedding, your destination is the Rockland Ferry Services. Parking: If you plan on leaving your car in Rockland, there is a paid parking lot directly at the terminal. It can get busy on Fridays, so please arrive at the ferry 45 min in advance in case you have to park in the overflow lot a bit further away. You don't need a car on the island, but if you want to bring one, you can either get a reservation exactly 30 days in advance (only 4 cars can get this per ferry) or put your car in line (we recommend getting to the ferry terminal at least one hour prior to your desired ferry departure time for the best chance of getting your car on board). From Boston Logan Airport – 4 hours (Friday traffic & Boston traffic can add time) From Portland International Airport – 2.5 hours From Bangor International Airport – 1.5 hours
Flight
From Boston Logan Airport – Driving is 4 hours (depending on traffic), the bus is 4.5 hours (see "By Bus" for details). From Portland International Airport – Driving is 2.5 hours, or you can take the 1:15pm Concord Coach bus, which arrives in Rockland at 3:30pm. The bus leaves from downtown Portland, so you'll need to take a taxi (7 min.) or bus (Line 5, 16 min.) from the airport to the Portland (bus) Transportation Center. From Bangor International Airport – Driving is 1.5 hours. Unfortunately, the only bus to Rockland leaves at 7:00am and is a 20min walk from the airport, so this option is best for those planning on renting a car.
Travel Note
There is a bus operated by Concord Coach that runs daily from Boston to the Rockland Ferry Terminal (where the North Haven Ferry is located). The bus stops in Boston at both Logan Airport and South Station. If you take the bus from Boston, it will put you at the Ferry terminal in time to make the last ferry to North Haven. There is a bus from Logan Airport (Terminal E) at 10:45am that arrives at South Station at 11:03am. From South Station, take the Concord Coach bus towards Bangor Maine—leaves at 11:15. The bus arrives in Rockland, ME at 3:30pm (7 stops). From Rockland, you'd take the 5:15pm ferry, which gets you to North Haven Island at 6:30pm. If you're taking the bus on Friday and would like to come to the BBQ, just let us know and we'll pick you up. If you're staying on Vinalhaven and would like to go straight there, you can take the 4:30pm ferry. Unfortunately, if you're coming on Saturday, the bus will not get you to North Haven in time for the wedding.
Travel Note
No matter which mode of transportation you choose to get to Rockland, you will need to take the ferry to get to North Haven Island. We've included ferry times below. One of the most important things to do when you arrive at the Ferry Terminal in Rockland is to make sure you are boarding the correct ferry! Ferries to North Haven, Vinalhaven, and Matinicus islands all leave from this terminal, and it can be confusing. Check with the ferry staff to be sure you are getting on the right ferry and, if you are bringing your car make sure that you are parked in the correct line. For information on ferry tickets and rates, car reservations, bringing a bike, and more, please call the North Haven Ferry Office at (207) 596-5400, or visit the Maine State Ferry Service website (linked below). You can buy tickets online to save time, or at the terminal (just get there a bit early). Ferries depart promptly—you'll want to be on board 15 min before departure. Departing Rockland – North Haven: 9:30 am – 10:40 am 2:20 pm – 3:30 pm 5:15 pm – 6:25 pm For those staying on Vinalhaven— Departing Rockland – Vinalhaven: 7:00 am – 8:15 am 8:45 pm – 10:00 am 10:30 pm – 11:45 am 1:00 pm – 2:15 pm 2:45 pm – 4:00 pm 4:30 pm – 5:45 pm Please visit the ferry website (linked below) for return schedules for North Haven and Vinalhaven back to Rockland. We have also chartered three ferries back to Vinalhaven after the wedding. Please see the schedule page for timings.
Travel Note
North Haven is only accessible by the ferry that runs just three times a day. For this reason, we recommend that you plan on joining us for the full weekend of August 18 - 20, or at least the night of our wedding, August 19. Like the island of North Haven itself, housing for our wedding will be a bit unconventional. With just one small inn on the island, we are happy to take the process of finding housing off of your hands. We will be placing each of our guests in a variety of accommodations on North Haven and Vinalhaven (the island next door). We will do our best to place each of you in an accommodation that suits your needs. We will have boats and shuttles to take people to and from the wedding, so no need to bring your car.
