Club Campestre is a country club in TJ, so the dress code is formal or black tie optional. For men, we recommend a nice suit and shoes. Skip tennis shoes and jeans. For women, floor length dress or formal cocktail dresses. Skip flip flops and day dresses. Arriving Thursday or early Friday gives you plenty of time to cross into and explore Tijuana. Your best option is before 2pm on Friday September 23 to avoid crossing during peak hours (4-6pm). The border is about 25 minutes from the airport, but southbound traffic on Friday afternoons can add significant delays, and we don't want anything keeping you from your first margarita.
From the airport using Uber: 1) Grab an Uber to the border, (type "Pedestrian access West El Chaparral" in Drop off location). 2) Walk across the bridge, follow the signs to Mexico. Have your passport ready. 3) Once in Tijuana side, catch an Uber or take a cab to your hotel. Taxis should be $5-10 to our venue and the hotels we recommended, which are about 7-10 minutes from the border. Most Uber or taxi drivers speak English but if not, just type the address for them and they'll take you. Travel time: 30-35 mins Cost: $35 From the airport using bus/trolley: 1) Take the 992 bus, 10 stops to Santa Fe Depot (Broadway & Kettner Blvd) 2) Take the UCSD Blue line trolley to San Ysidro. 18 stops and exit on San Ysidro Station. 3) Follow steps 2 & 3 from Uber option above. Travel time: 70-80 mins Cost: $5
Ubers or taxis are the best way to get around in TJ. Most rental cars in the US do not allow entry into Mexico. We do not recommend renting a car from the US because crossing back into the US by car usually takes around 4 hours. Walking across the border is much easier.
Most likely! Once you cross the border, choose the "Automatic" carrier selection in your iPhone settings, or manually choose "Telcel" or "Movistar" for the best internet service. Also, most places have Wi-Fi so don't forget to ask: "Cuál es la clave del Wifi?"!
If you use the pedestrian bridge, Mexico Customs will ask for your passport, and scan your bags. This typically takes 5-10 minutes.
Take a taxi or Uber to the border ("la frontera"), and walk toward one of the pedestrian lanes. If you have a Global Entry card, use the Sentri lanes for pedestrians. If you have a Passport card, you can use the "Ready Lane" lanes. These options take 5-10 minutes. If you have a passport book, use the regular lanes. This takes 30-45 minutes. Without Global Entry, we don't recommend driving back into the US, because the wait times for the regular driving lanes are typically 3-5 hours. Use this link to check wait times at the border: https://bwt.cbp.gov/details/09250401/PED
We have everything we need, so the most meaningful gift would be to contribute to our fund to buy our own house. Please see the Gift Registry page for more details on how to help us.
Even though using your own car allows you to drive straight through the border (you may get stopped to verify license and registration, but this is not super common), getting back into the US without Global Entry is very difficult. Wait times for the regular driving lanes are typically 3-5 hours. We definitely recommend using the pedestrian lanes.
We kindly ask everyone to not bring any children/toddlers/babies to the party, that way we can all enjoy the party to its fullest.
