I met Kaitlyn on a Wednesday night, September 5th. However I had seen her several times before this, I was playing the keyboard for a worship band at our Baptist Collegiate Ministry at Southeastern. Kaitlyn and her roommate would come in and sit in the second row every Thursday night. We ended up having a mutual friend named Alexis who introduced us. Before I actually met her, a friend of mine named Ronnie and I came up with this whole plan for me to get her phone number and hopefully start dating her. We called it Operation Midnight Hour, and when we realized Alexis knew Kaitlyn, we brought her into the plan. So on Wednesday nights people from the BCM would meet up and play ultimate Frisbee on the Southeastern football field. On September 5th, 2018 I went to play ultimate Frisbee and Alexis was going to bring Kaitlyn to watch us all play. I also had Alexis be my wing women and talk me up that night so when I shook hands with Kaitlyn she would already know some stuff about me! We all got to hang out that night, but what really allowed Kaitlyn and I to get to know each other was the next night. After each BCM we would all go to IHOP to eat. I had Ronnie planted near the back door to invite them to come with us to IHOP (Kaitlyn and her roommate Haleigh liked to leave fast) but Ronnie got distracted by talking to people and had to run across BCM to catch them. Eventually, we convinced them to come with us, and we all got to hang out. That night I got to learn about Kaitlyn's heart for ministry and I shared with Kaitlyn my passion for ministry as well, and from there I was hooked! I did everything I could to get to be around her and get to know her more! I even joined a worship group at the time that she was leading and volunteered to play drums (even though I don't know how to) just to get to spend more time with her, and the rest is history!
Jordan had convinced me that we had not been on a date in a while and told me he wanted to make it special and go to a cool new place he found. He even told me to dress nice so he could take pictures of me while we were on our date! That day I had no idea what Jordan had planned! He picked me up and had a picnic basket loaded down with yummy foods and Martinelli's! He even packed this date box I had gotten him for Valentine's day, which had fun games and activities we could do together. Jordan began driving us to the spot he had picked out, and I still had no idea where he was planning on taking me! We finally arrived at the spillway at Lake Texoma. I had never been there before and was so scared it was illegal to shimmy down the concrete walls of the spillway! Jordan was assuring me that we were still law-abiding citizens as we finally made it to the center of the spillway. It was beautiful! We ate so much food and cheesecake and then began our activities from our date box! The box was 80's themed and so one of the activities was making a time capsule for us to look back on. We wrote letters to each other for us to read once we opened it and wrote down the goals that we had for our relationship. Jordan then started getting antsy and I could tell he was rushing me to finish my letter, but I still had no clue what was going on! Jordan popped the question by telling me that he wanted to take some pictures of me looking over the water. He had me turn away so he could get the ring out and then met me at the edge of the spillway, told me how much he loved me, and then got down on one knee. And I said yes! He surprised me with my family at the top of the hill, and it truly was the best day ever. Jordan had other plans to propose that were all wrecked by COVID, but I could not ask for a more beautiful proposal story.
