Our paths first crossed in college. We both played basketball at Itawamaba Community College. Although we would occasionally “bump” into each other on the way to and from practice, we briefly acknowledged each other with a quick “hey”. We would both admit later that we took notice of each other back in those days, but neither one of us was brave enough to “shoot our shot”. We would later reconnect when a girl’s weekend trip turned into a “hey stranger” message on social media. At this point, we were living in two different cities, but we managed to stay connected. A few more weekend trips to Dallas would eventually allow us to hang out and get a bit closer. We had our first date the weekend of Valentine’s Day, and let’s just say the sparks were flying! A sudden career change would allow us both to be in Dallas. It was then, that we decided to make it official and date exclusively. Well as you may or may not know, our first run at dating wasn’t so successful. We decided to mutually end our relationship, which ended up being a 3-year split. One day, one phone call, one incident would change both of our lives. A torn Achilles tendon would allow us to connect once again. And as we both like to say, nothing is a coincidence. We got to learn each other in a whole new way. And the rest, as they say, is history! And we look forward to continuing to write our love story!
Little did we both know; we were in for a huge surprise this night. One of us would spend the last few weeks planning a surprise birthday dinner and the other would be making plans to spend the rest of our lives together. The surprise dinner was set for Tim’s birthday at Del Frisco’s. Family and friends from both sides were in attendance. The joke was on us as our family and friends knew what each of us had in store for the evening. For Tim, the mood of a casual dinner was set. To his surprise as the doors opened, a room full of family and friends, yelled “Happy Birthday”. His facial expression filled with joy and laughter said it all. As the night went on, you could feel the anticipation in the room gradually building. As the room settled, Angie stood up to acknowledge Tim for his birthday, and to thank everyone for coming. Joining her at the head of the room, Tim thanked Angie for putting this celebration together, but he didn’t stop there. He then took a step back, reached in his left jacket pocket, and begin to get down on one knee. The room was elated as he asked for her hand in marriage. Briefly stunned by what had just happened, Angie tearfully replied, “yes”.
