We're (Finally) Getting Married!

As Amber likes to tell it, Greg was that annoying overachiever who asked too many questions during our Food Science graduate school classes. In fact, before they really got to know each other, Amber didn't particularly like Greg. He kept everyone late in our 3 hr class several times and then his questions would often influence our exam questions which was less than ideal. In short, he annoyed and frustrated her.... Not that this native-New Yorker had an opinion. Then one fateful day while Amber was studying in the library, she looked over and saw Greg quietly studying by himself. Seeing a different side of him sparked a budding attraction and curiosity. She started observing him more an more after that, curious as to learning more about this person. However, it wasn't until they were put in a study group together, where it clicked and eventually led to their first date. Amber immediately saw that Greg, to his core, was the most kind and caring man she ever met. It didn't hurt that he was also obsessed with food and science as mush as her too. As the saying goes, don't judge a book by its cover or in their case don't judge a person before you see them quietly studying in the library :-)

Everyone knows men take longer to see the obvious things right in front of them and this story of love is no different. Let's be real. Greg was first attracted to Amber mainly because he thought she was hot; he was simple. But flash forward to a Greg's first birthday together and a pivotal change occurs. Still oblivious to his own feelings, his birthday progresses quite normally for Greg. However, little does he know that Amber had meticulously and lovingly planned a surprise night of celebration. Come evening, they get all glammed up ready to head to dinner. Plot twist, Amber drives Greg not to a restaurant in Orange County, but drags him all the way up to West Hollywood. We get to Saddle Ranch (a cowboy-like restaurant with a mechanical bull) and he is still a little confused, but excited nonetheless. As he saw one friend and then another and then another, all getting drinks at the bar, he finally struck him that this was a SURPRISE party. Amber got all of his friends to drive to WeHo (friendship commitment right there) and dress up in a "G" theme from grapes to Garth to glitter to a GC model, everyone was their favorite G-item. Greg had never had a surprise party and he was overwhelmed with emotion. It was this gift and many surprise gestures afterwards that made Greg want to hold onto Amber forever. He loved her not just for looks, but for her smarts, thoughtfulness, too detail-oriented for her own good, and perpetual quest to surprise Greg and make life fun!
