While Garrett might say that we met when he was a senior at Samford, I mostly remember slack-lining in the sun on Samford’s quad, when a vaguely familiar guy walked up to me and said “hello!” I must have looked confused because he then said “Hi, I’m Garrett Greer, and you’re Gracie Groves.” As we started chatting he joked that since our initials were the same, maybe we should get married — and here we are three years later! After a couple weeks of friendship and laughter on the quad, Garrett decided to risk asking me on a date. While our date started off slow with whispered conversations in a dusty bookstore about what we liked to read, we quickly headed outside, and the afternoon date stretched into evening as we explored downtown Birmingham together. We ate at the Pizitz food hall, visited an outdoor art festival, and even thought we crashed a fancy rooftop party— only to discover that it was just a restaurant. From that first date until today, our relationship has been full of surprises, exploration, and laughter! We continued to explore Samford together until I graduated, and we’ve had the joy of serving the Lord together in student ministry at Cross Creek Church. We’re looking forward to many more afternoons in dusty bookshops and running around the world together, hopefully continuing to live in laughter and love for the Lord!
