One day after school at the FCS lockers, I was waiting to be picked up after cheerleading practice. Kris came up to me and made me laugh (as he does) and we became bestfriends instantly. We would talk on the phone for hours at a time till one of us would fall asleep. He'd even drive all the way to my mother and father's house (Country Walk and Miami Lakes) just to spend time together. After many attempts, he asked me to be his girlfriend and I finally said "yes."
Three years after the beginning of our highschool relationship Kris ultimately left Miami to study in Tallahassee at Florida State University while I began my senior year of high school. Both of our stories differ here but since I’m writing this I have the power to say Kris knew that FSU was my #1 choice university and applied, knowing I would be there the following year but he would always be able to say he was there first LOL. During the year apart, we ultimately decided we would be better as “friends.” We would always have an undeniable deep love and respect for each other. Kris graduated from Florida State University in 2016, moved back to Miami, traveled to Thailand, and started a business with his mother Martha. A year later in 2018 I graduated and moved back to Miami. I called Kris to catch up and Kris invited me to jet skiing the following day. On 2/24/2018, we had a wonderful day catching up and learning the new people we had become since we had last been together 5 years prior. When we kissed at the end of the night, that’s pretty much when we thought “Okay this could be something.”
After an unusually busy day for me from playing in my family’s annual Christmas kickball game to attending brunch with my girlfriends, I called Kris excited to finally spend time together. I asked him if he would like to meet me in the Design District and he said “No, just come home and we’ll figure something out.” I walk into our apartment in Brickell and hear my favorite song playing, “Love Story” by Taylor Swift. As I take a step inside the apartment I see a beautiful aisle of rose petals expanding from the front door to the middle of the living room. I remember thinking two things simultaneously, the first was “OMG it’s happening!” the second was “where did all of the furniture go?!” The living room was covered with beautiful white and blush colored rose petals, gorgeous candles varying in size and width, and in the center was a huge stunning arrangement of white and blush colored roses. And parallel to the arrangement stood Kris. The man I’m in love with, who I’ve known for almost half of my life. It was such a surreal moment. He got down on one knee and began saying things we both cannot seem to remember till this day lol. All we remember is when he said "Will you marry me?" and I screamed “YES!” We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you in Mexico!
