Luray, Virginia is a special place to be in October - The crisp air and the turning leaves make for some beautiful scenery in the Shenandoah Valley. We made several trips to the area when we were dating during the pandemic and we hope everyone gets the chance to see why we fell in love with the area!
Shenandoah National Park - Thornton Gap Entrance

Shenandoah National Park - Thornton Gap Entrance

U.S. 211, Luray, VA 22835

No trip to Luray is complete without spending time in the Shenandoah National Park! Skyline Drive, less than a 15 minute drive from Luray, offers stupendous views you can drive or hike to along its nearly hundred scenic miles. There's no shortage of beauty in the park between large waterfalls, dense forests and layered mountain views that stretch for miles. We encourage you to soak up the beauty that made us fall in love with this region! There are multiple entrances, but the closest to Luray is via Route 211 to Thornton Gap. From there, you can take Skyline Drive (the iconic road that runs through Shenandoah) north or south. There are many outlooks along the road, so keep your eyes peeled! Some of our favorite hikes include Stony Man Mountain Loop (3 mi), Dark Hollow Falls (1.5 mi) and Mary's Rock (3 mi). Park entrance fees do apply but there are various discounts for seniors and active/former military: https://www.nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/fees.htm

Luray Caverns

Luray Caverns

101 Cave Hill Road, Luray, VA 22835

The Shenandoah area has several underground cavern systems that are open to exploration and offer awesome views. The Luray Caverns are a popular destination minutes from the wedding venue, however there are several to choose between (https://visitshenandoah.org/whats-new/seven-caverns-in-the-shenandoah-valley/). Whichever you choose, make sure you bring a jacket - the caverns are typically a cool 50 degrees year-round!

Spend some time in the quaint town of Luray, Virginia! The town offers dining and shopping options, a charming Main Street, and the Luray-Hawksbill Greenway, a two-mile paved walking/bike trail that cuts through town. Fall is a busy time in the area, so perhaps you can catch a live music or performance as well!

Massanutten Storybook Trail

A short (but windy) drive from the venue, you can stroll along this half-mile interpretive trail that leads to a spectacular view overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah Valley! Learn from the interpretive signs of how the Massanutten Mountains were formed. The trail is paved and handicapped accessible as well.

Wisteria Farm and Vineyard

Wineries, distilleries and breweries surround the Shenandoah Valley and offer a great spot to unwind throughout the weekend. While Wisteria is a family-owned winery near the venue, you can check out the link below to see other options in the area!

Different from the Massanutten Creek wedding venue, the Massanutten Resort is a four-season mountain resort nearby that offers lots of activities in the fall, including hiking trails, a golf course, tennis courts, and an indoor water park! We stumbled upon the White Oak Lavender Farm on a friends trip and really enjoyed ourselves! The lavender grown on the family farm can be found in their shop's products and their wine & cider tasting room. You can also explore the interactive gardens and see the animals on the property as well.
