Mission District: Our favorite neighborhood! A bit gritty, so much fun. Named for the 1776-built Mission Dolores, the Mission District is an exuberant, evolving neighborhood with Latino roots and a hipster vibe. Old-school taquerias and eclectic live-music clubs mix with chef-driven eateries and craft cocktail lounges. There are also tattoo parlors, gourmet ice cream shops and Dolores Park, a popular weekend hangout with skyline views. Vibrant murals line streets such as Clarion Alley. Fillmore Street: Fun street with tons of shops, restaurants, and bars running along Fillmore Street between Broadway and Golden Gate Ave. Also can take a break in Alta Vista Park! Hayes Valley: More fun shops and restaurants! Visit Alamo Square Park for a view of the city over the famous row of homes, called the Painted Ladies. Pacific Heights and Cow Hollow: The bougiest of bougie in SF. Explore the impeccably manicured streets and mansions. Visit the Lyon Street Steps for a picture-perfect moment.
A beach and flat oceanside walk (ADA accessible) with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Watch the wind surfers while you picnic on the beach!
Drive up to the highest point in San Francisco to get 360 views of the entire city!
Spend an afternoon roaming the spectacular gardens and stop for tea and a snack in the tea room on the grounds.
Another iconic park in SF to people watch, have a picnic, get a great view of the city, and enjoy the sun. Grab an ice cream cone from Bi-Rite Creamery across the street and enjoy in the park. Most people bring picnic blankets to sit in the grass, but there are a couple of picnic benches/tables around (often filled). Spend the rest of the day roaming the small shops and restaurants of Valencia Ave in the Mission District.
Walk around the Ferry Building where you can grab some artisan gifts/snacks. If you're feeling fancy, score a reservation at La Mar (or visit their new cocktail bar for lighter fare).
A fun time for kids and adults! Located in Golden Gate Park.
A beautiful and historic state park located on an island, which is a short ferry ride away. Take the ferry from either San Francisco or Tiburon (across the Golden Gate Bridge, in Marin County). We would recommend bringing food and blankets for a picnic, or just a small day pack for some easy hikes. Enjoy a picnic on the beach with a view of San Francisco across the bay.
