David and Hannah met when their friends wanted to take them on a short hike behind the Abbey on Benedictine College campus. It was the beginning of their sophomore year. Through conversation, they realized they were both in marching band and shared similar friends. They thought it strange that they never ran into each other during their Freshman year, but attributed it to the various COVID restrictions of the time. David was discerning seminary at the time but later heard the call to go date. When he worked up the courage to ask Hannah on a date, she had disappeared. She caught COVID and had to go home for a week. It wasn't until a few weeks after that David actually asked her out on a date. After two dates, a break in between, and two more dates later, they decided they would make it official.
While back in Iowa after a long summer in Atchison, David took Hannah to Mass at St. Ambrose Cathedral for the feast of the Assumption. He coordinated with Katie, Hannah's best friend, to be there to take photos. When they arrived at the Cathedral, Hannah saw Katie sitting towards the back of the church. At first she was confused as to why Katie wasn't at work, but guessed that her boss would have let her go to Mass for the Feast Day. After Mass, David took Hannah to the statue of Mary in the back of the church. Together they prayed, and David asked that they "God-willing, may spend a happy life together," and got down on one knee and proposed. Katie then jumped in and took photos of the happy couple around the church.
