In the fall of 2019, I (Emily) ended up going to the same youth group where Brandon played percussion for worship. We both noticed each other, but never said hello. Fast forward several weeks later, where I recognized him on Facebook and we connected over social media. We became friends and led worship together. Our group of friends would go to Cookout after Wednesday services, which gave us the chance to learn more about each other and form a wonderful friendship. A few college basketball games, several friend group outings, Winterjam, and a Valentine's party later, we realized we wanted our friendship to become more. And the rest is history!
Almost a year after we first met, Brandon took me to see the Christmas lights at the Opryland Hotel. If you're from the Tennessee/Kentucky area, you know that for a lot of people, going to see the lights is tradition (even if you don't stay at the hotel). We walked around and I had a feeling he might propose. I called one of my best friends (Madison White, who is now one of my maids of honor!) since she lived not too far from Opryland. As it turns out, she was already at the hotel and had no idea we would be there! It was always my dream to have a least one family member or friend there when I got engaged, and her family just so happened to go see the lights the same night we did. After meeting up with Madison, Brandon and I walked around a bit more before stopping at the most beautiful part of the whole hotel. This spot was secluded, yet right next to the indoor river and close to the giant Christmas tree. You could see every bit of the hotel's beauty from our location. So it was there that Brandon got down on one knee and asked me to become his wife. It was the most romantic, perfect, precious night--it had always been my dream to get engaged under the Christmas lights, and here I was, going to marry the man of my dreams.
