Where Our Story Began

Today we live in a world of expecting instant gratification - becoming impatient while you wait for the red light to turn green, watching the minutes on the clock tick as you wait for your turn in line at the Starbucks drive-thru, and expecting chemistry and soul-to-soul compatibility all from looking at pictures on one (okay…maybe several…) dating apps in order to find THE ONE. Jenna and Jason knew all of these struggles all too well. However, in the summer of 2021, everything changed. Jason and Jenna met like many pandemic-stricken couples have — yes, online. Thanks to Bumble, Jenna had to be the one to make the first move. After several (yes, sadly, several) uneventful messaging exchanges with others on the app, it appeared that Jason and Jenna were consistent with answering back and forth. That night, Jason had asked to FaceTime Jenna. Albeit nervous, Jenna was feeling the urge to step outside of her comfort zone and take a risk, as she had never FaceTimed with someone (a stranger, at this point) that she had not met in person. The time seemed to fly, they talked about their lives, their families, and their experiences in the past that led them to where they were. After lots of laughs, some tears, and about five hours later, Jenna and Jason knew that the person on the other end of the FaceTime call was going to be one to remember. For their first date, they ventured off to Block Island, Rhode Island, a place neither of them had been to before but had always been interested in. It was decided that the day would be full of soaking up the sun, exploring the island, and getting to know each other. They rented a moped, which kept each of them on the edges of their seats. While Jenna was certain she had blown it with Jason when the moped fell on top of her while parked (yes, parked, you read that correctly), he quickly ran over and helped her dust herself off in order to enjoy the rest of their day. They found a private beach, where they stacked beach rocks, drew pictures in the sand, and shared their first kiss. The two knew that this person was who all of the heartache, frustration, and at times, hopelessness was leading to. They knew all of they difficulty they’d faced over the last few years had been worth it.
