We first met as classmates at Wilson in AP World History (nerds). We sat next to each other and worked on assignments together occasionally. We crossed paths again during senior year of high school, where Gaby conspired against Darian's back to befriend him so he would ask her to prom. As we got to know each other, we realized how many things we had in common and how like-minded we are. A simple prom-date blossomed into a life-long partnership.
For the tenth anniversary of our relationship, we took a trip to Joshua Tree to celebrate us and the impending developments in our lives. After a day of hiking and taking in the sights, we made dinner together and went outside to see the stars, as is our custom whenever we are out of the city. We talked extensively about how exciting it was that Gaby was getting ready to jump into her dream job and how Darian was soon going to be starting medical school. Under the cover of the night sky and the promise of an exciting future, Darian got down on one knee. While Darian was savoring the moment and carefully piecing together his words, Gaby in her haste and excitement infamously exclaimed "you haven't even asked me!" before Darian could ask the question. Whether it be from the rush of the moment or being unable to find the the perfect words that reflected a life-long commitment, Darian simply asked Gaby "Would you be my wife?" Attempting to show restraint from trying to put on the ring herself and through a flood of tears, she gave her "Yes".
