Gabe & Amanda met when they were both brought on as part-time employees for the Indianapolis Museum of Art's Beer Garden Winter event (aka Winterlights) over the holiday season. Gabe had just moved to Indy and was helping out a friend who worked there, and Amanda was desperately looking for some way to recover from the daily trauma of teaching high school freshmen. At Winterlights, the pair continued to be assigned to the same small, barely frequented tent, which gave them the opportunity to chat for hours while drinking spiked beverages. Gabe, desperately wanting to avoid mixing business with pleasure (note: the business in question was getting paid $10/hr to drink and look at Christmas lights), waited until the Winterlights event was over before he asked her out.
Once the pair had aligned that they would be sticking together for the foreseeable future, the next course of action was to test out their relationship in the big city. After a year of remote working side-by-side at a dining room table during Covid, the couple packed up their Indy apartment and high-tailed to NYC (we won't go into getting t-boned by a bus the day before leaving & getting a $300 traffic ticket the second we arrived). They now are proud UWS residents & refuse to make the move to Brooklyn despite how many of their peers insist upon it.
During Covid, Gabe and Amanda made Pickleball a huge part of their personalities. Why, you ask? It's an activity where you can socially-distance, exercise, and drink White Claws with your friends... It only seemed right that when Gabe was ready to propose, the proposal would happen at a Pickleball Court. Gabe made sure to win the match (as he knew Amanda would never say yes to a loser), and got down on one knee. The couple was celebrated by 20+ middle-aged to elderly New Jersey residents, and they wouldn't have had it any other way.
