You can book your flights up to ten months in advance, and the earlier the better price-wise. There are direct flights to Cape Town out of Newark, Atlanta, and Washington DC. United flies out of Newark and DC, and Delta flies out of Atlanta. The flights are typically 14-15 hours and cost around $1200-$1400. You can also split up your flights and go via Europe; those flight journeys will be longer, but are more affordable at times. If you require any assistance with booking your flights, we have a travel agent in Cape Town who would be more than happy to assist you. Just contact Gabi at gabriella.lipschitz97@gmail.com.
There are two main events for the wedding: Wednesday night welcome party and Thursday wedding. We would love to have you there for those two days, but recommend staying as long as you can! Because it is such a long journey, we recommend at least a week, but obviously there are time restraints and life keeps on going, so whatever time you can take for yourself will be well spent.
Hotels: There will be blocked rooms at The President Hotel. See the link below for more information. https://www.presidenthotel.co.za/ Air BnB's: If you plan on booking an Air BnB or something of that ilk, look in these areas: Camps Bay, Hout Bay, Bantry Bay, Sea Point, Green Point
The dress code is formal, with inspirations for bright colors, sparkles, and feathers galore! The theme is safari disco, so whatever comes to mind when you hear that is what you should wear. We're thinking bright colored dresses (long or short), and suits (no tuxes required). Whatever you feel free & funky in. It will be hot outside, so keep that in mind as well. The ceremony and cocktail hour will take place outside and the reception will take place inside. There will be parasols available for the ceremony, should the sunshine really get ya.
There really are infinite options when it comes to safaris: most of them are a flight away from Cape Town, but there's also a few that are just a couple hours drive away. If you have any specific questions about safaris, feel free to email us at gabriella.lipschitz97@gmail.com. My family has been to many different safaris in the area and can vouch for certain ones or give opinions on whatever you come across. Aquila Private Game Reserve is the safari option if you don't want to take a flight - it's around 2 hours from Cape Town and is absolutely gorgeous. You can check it out here: https://www.aquilasafari.com/. A few that I have personally been to and loved: Lush Private Lodge https://www.lushprivatelodge.co.za/ Marataba Luxury Lodges https://www.marataba.co.za/
Cape Town is just like any new city you're traveling to: it's important to be self-aware and know where you are. I don't expect that anyone would wander around Philadelphia alone at night, so I don't expect that you would do that in unknown areas of Cape Town that you've never visited before. (That being said, Cape Town is a LOT nicer than Philly - sorry, jawns.) Cape Town is most definitely a safe city and those who live there are hyper aware of security needs for tourists. Certain hikes should be done at times where other people will be around, but a lot of the popular hikes are heavily populated so you shouldn't ever really be alone hiking a mountain. If you have any specific questions about things, you can always run it by us :)
If your children are listed on the invitation, then yes! If not, then apologies - no.
