Nick and I met while working at The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine. I had moved to Maine in October 2016 as the lab I was working in at the time relocated from Memphis, Tennessee. I loved Maine right away - everything from Acadia National Park to cute little downtown Bar Harbor to the new friends and colleagues I was making at the lab. It only got better when Nick returned to Bar Harbor in January 2017 following his first semester at Tufts University in Boston. I hadnt realized this, but Nick had already been living and working in Bar Harbor for several years prior to my moving there. While he was gone, I had become friends with several of the other graduate students (hi Alex and Kate!) and as a result, we ended up in the same circle of friends relatively quickly. Nick and I bonded over our mutual love of science, our cats, board games (although I think this one stems more from Nick’s love of beating me at all board games, especially Connect Four), day drinking, Game of Thrones, and Two Cats breakfasts. Before long, we were spending much of our free time together and by February, Nick had asked me if he could introduce me as his girlfriend. The rest is history!
The week after Nick “officially” moved to NYC, I came home one random Wednesday after work to all the lights off in our apartment and flickering candlelight. At first I was incredibly confused - did we forget to leave a light on for the cats (necessary as our apartment gets approximately of one minute of sunlight daily) AND accidentally leave a candle on? What was going on? It was then that I saw Nick sitting on the couch with Fiona and a ring box. He got down on one knee and asked if I would marry him (and Fiona), all while trying to keep Fi from scarfing down salmon he had so romatically made for us. It was perfectly us, and after recovering from my momentary confusion - it was Wednesday at 5pm after all - I agreed that there was nothing else in this world I would like better. And now after many months of quarantining in our tiny NYC apartment, I’m more sure than ever that we have found our perfect life partners in each other. Nick and I are so excited to get to celebrate with the people that mean the most to us, and hope this website is helpful for all of you! Please reach out at any point if there are any questions along the way, we can’t wait to see you!
