We recommend that you rent a car for the duration of your stay. There is no public transport anywhere in the country and without a rental vehicle, your only option is to walk, cycle, or take a taxi. The exception is that some all-inclusive resorts and luxury vacation villas offer complimentary transport or car use. Gasoline is quite expensive there, at around $5 a gallon (August 2017). However, most of the driving distances are quite short so the high price isn't too noticeable. They drive on the left, as in the United Kingdom. However, most cars are imported from the United States (which are left-hand steering). In addition, school buses and other shuttle buses are also typically imported from the United States, which results in passengers being unloaded directly into traffic lanes.

The accommodations on Providenciales can be divided into three categories: all-inclusive resorts, hotels and resorts, and rental villas. These options all have various advantages and disadvantages. Villas are great for those who appreciate a little extra space, a bit of seclusion and privacy. When compared to resorts, a rental house can be more economical for groups or a large family. Many luxury properties are located directly on one of our stunning smaller beaches, and typically these coasts are far less busy than the famous Grace Bay. On the smaller and outer islands in the Turks and Caicos, a rental villa or guest house may be the only lodging options available as there are simply no large resorts. Each of our smaller islands and cays offers something unique, blending laid-back atmospheres, spectacular landscapes, and romantic beaches.

The array of budget options in Turks and Caicos isn’t as extensive, yet there are some great choices as well. The best value hotels tend to found a little inland, yet still within easy walking distance of the beach. Our recommendation is that you consider how you’d like to spend your stay. If simply enjoying the beach and pool is your ideal vacation, then definitely look at paying up for the ease and view of beachfront. On the other hand, if you want to get out to the sights and attractions, lesser-known beaches, take an island day trip or just explore, your dollars may be better spent on car rental and activities. Due to the small island sizes, all hotels in Turks and Caicos are within walking distance of the beach.
