Flight
AAL, JBU, Copa, Avianca, and Spirit fly from the USA. Direct flights are from FLL, Miami, Orlando, and NYC. If you prefer other carriers, the best option is flying to Bogotá and from there to Medellín. The airport is about 12 miles (35 min) outside the city. Airport has free WiFi; there is also a Juan Valdez coffee shop as you exit the immigration area, their WiFi password is “palitodequeso”.
Travel Note
Uber and taxis are readily available anywhere in the city. Two things to note: - Taxis only accept cash. - Uber drivers may ask one passenger to sit in the front seat; this is normal in Medellín.
Travel Note
Currency exchange is available at the airport, however prices will be higher than they are in the city. There are several places in El Poblado where you can buy Colombian pesos, here are a couple options: - Homecambios: edificio plaza, Cl 10 #42-63, El Poblado, Medellín - Money Xchange: located inside Santafe Mall, Cra. 43A # 7 sur -170 C. Ccial, Medellín Also note, if your bank does not charge foreign transaction fees, foreign currency fees, or foreign ATM fees; then the best exchange rates can be obtained by using an ATM to get cash. (This is the case for Charles Schwab accounts) your bank’s website can provide details on their specific fees.
