Most of you know our story, you have heard Jake and I share it a hundred times, not because it is a crazy story, but because it's ours and a moment that changed both of our lives. On October 16th 2020, I was in Kansas City for a two week long work trip. My assistant, Stephanie and I decided to get something to eat and stumbled upon the Dubliner, a bar inside the Power and Light District. We sat down outside, it was a beautiful night, and a great band had just started to play! While Stephanie and I were enjoying the music, eating some food and not noticing anyone else around us, Jake had apparently noticed me! He and his friends spent the next half an hour debating on what to say when they came up to talk to us, finally Jake said "I got it, I know what I'm going to say, you guys can come with me if you want". Before long, there was a stranger standing right next to me, ready with the pick up line he had worked so hard on. I looked at him and he said "This band is pretty good do you know their name?" and I replied with "The Cowardly Lions" and he responded with "oh you do know them!" I chuckled and said "Well their name is in huge letters right behind you!" That embarrassing moment led to an entire night of talking, which turned into spending the last nine days straight of my work trip with each other, followed by many more embarrassing moments we have been lucky enough to share together in the past almost three years. To say the line "it was love at first sight" would be a cliché, but one that truly matches how we felt. We both knew after that first night we met, we never wanted to not have this other person in our life ever again. And after just four days of knowing each other we decided to take the large leap and start a long distance relationship, and a year and a half later Jake proposed in the exact same spot we met. We conquered a year of long distance, raising a child, being a step-parent, new jobs, and now we have moved to Kansas City and are raising our family here. Our journey so far has truly been one of the most blissful, wonderful and beautiful things that we have been so lucky to share together. We are so fortunate to have had the support of our families and friends that helped us through the travel, rides to the airport (some three hour round trip rides if we flew through midway!) and the overall love we have been given and shown through our entire relationship so far.
