In 2013 Ana was headed to the movies in DC and her friend Brett decided to invite his co-worker Mike. "He's a single male in his twenties and usually down to clown... " The group proceeded to make fun of Brett for both giving a demographic profile and using the phrase "down to clown" the rest of the night. After the movies, they went to a bar where Ana and Mike chatted. Ana was of course oblivious to the fact that Mike was flirting with her. She thought he just wanted to chat since they were both graphic designers. After the movies her friend Kate told Ana "Mike is into you" and Ana didn't believe her and said, "besides I am not into lanky white boys anyway" (turns out she is). They hung out in a group setting for a while then a few months later Mike and Ana went on their first date to get Tapas. Mike spent many days at work wondering if he should Google Chat Ana. His new plan was to keep asking her out "until she tells me to go away." But she never told him to go away. Then a few months later they went camping to Assateague Island on an unusually hot October weekend to see the wild ponies. After they returned home Mike asked Ana to be his girlfriend. She said yes and her sister Sophia immediately told the whole family and he was forced to meet the whole Greek side a few weeks later at her cousin's engagement party.
Flash forward 7 years. Mike received the ring on Black Friday and had to sneak out of the house before Ana was awake to get it. Then Mike and Ana spent Christmas Eve at her family's house during the pandemic in 2020. Before dinner, they took the dogs on a rainy walk to the dairy farm next to Ana's parent's house. Mike was hiding the ring in his hood. They passed a neighbor who almost ruined the surprise by yelling for Mike to put his hood up or he would catch a cold. On the farm Mike discreetly placed the ring in a pipe on a crumbling stone wall next to an old barn and told Ana to come quickly because there was a chipmunk in the pipe. Ana dropped Zoe's leash and ran over to look and completely missed the ring box. Mike didn't have a better plan so he grabbed it and dropped to one knee and proposed. She cried and said yes.
