Juan Diego and Alexandra met in Physics class at Castro Valley High School on the first day of Junior Year. It was luck, and alphabetical seating by last name, that grouped them together for the entirety of the school year. While Alexandra admired his infinite smile and Juan Diego seized every opportunity to make her laugh, it would be a little more than a year before anything more than butterflies and friendship sparked between them.
On their first outing together, neither Alexandra nor Juan Diego could figure out if they were on a date or out as friends. Their evening began with the movie “Storks,”followed by cheese burgers at the Rocket Grill in Hayward where they talked about their families and their lives. They wrapped up their evening with a long walk and deep conversation, during which they each wondered if the occasional brush of their hand was intentional or just the wind. They said farewell with an awkward almost-hug and went their separate ways. They figured out later that it was, indeed, their first date.
Juan Diego had it all planned: the ring, the picnic in the park, and the blanket that asked, "Will you marry me?" What he didn't expect was the morning sickness that Alexandra would experience while she was carrying their son. Despite Juan Diego's efforts to prepare a relaxing picnic in the park, he was forced to improvise: Under the guise of a quick trip to his mom's house, he surprised Alexandra with two dozen roses, the blanket covered in rose petals, and a speech that never made it past, "Alexandra Eliz..." before she was in his arms with a teary, "of course!"
When Alexandra and Juan Diego would talk about their future and everything they wanted in their life together, it was always centered around a home filled with stinky fingers and the pitter patter of little feet. When life had settled down and they were finally ready to start chasing that dream together, they were lucky enough to have their wish granted almost immediately. On December 27th, 2023, they welcomed their beautiful baby boy into the world. William has filled their home with smiles, unconditional love, and diapers. They can’t wait to share their special day with the joy of their lives.
