We met online at Christian Café and after months of talking we decided it was time to meet in person. In March 2018 Ester came to the US. We hit it off in person as much as we did online! Brian visited Malaysia in June 2018, and Ester came back to the US in August 2018. In June 2019 Brian went to Malaysia so we could host an engagement party for our family and friends there.
Brian had decided beforehand to propose when he was visiting Ester for the first time in Malaysia in June 2018. It was a crazy day! First, the AC in the car died so it was a very hot drive back to the city to get it fixed. The window was down and in the process of getting it rolled up Brian’s fingers were in the way and were dented by the window. Originally the plan had been to go to visit Ester‘s aunt and uncle that day, but Brian was trying to figure out a way to get Ester to stay in town another day so he could propose. The phone rang and in an answer to prayer it was the aunt telling us to wait another day before coming to visit. Brian decided to propose at a musical fountain with a light show. On the way there we stopped to get some authentic Malay food and unfortunately some of the sauce ended up on Brian’s shirt (if you look at the engagement photos you can see the watermark from trying to clean it up). We walked around the fountains and then Brian knelt down and proposed. Ester said yes and the next thing Brian said was, "what finger does the ring on?" Neither of us were sure but we went with the second finger. After sending out photos to our family and friends we started receiving messages that the ring was on the wrong finger, it eventually made its way to the correct finger! As we were walking around the fountain, enjoying our new engagement, the Colby Caillat song, "I do" played in the background – a perfect way to end the day.
