Sammy and Josh met in 2014 at Virginia Wesleyan College, through soccer. They were part of the same friend group and that friendship lasted the next 2 years. Sammy was a sophomore when Josh graduated VWC in 2016 and she thought he had moved back to Texas. To Sammy's surprise, he was still living and working in VA Beach! Eventually, Josh reached out to ask her on a date. After being together for a few years, they always knew they wanted to end up in Texas and were excited when both of their job searches led them to the Lone Star State. In 2019, they moved to the Dallas area.

While on vacation with the Espejo's, Josh asked Sammy to marry him during a romantic dinner on the water at Ophelia’s on the Bay. Josh had bought a fake ring to put in the champagne glasses that were brought to the table. "I heard we're celebrating something," the waiter said. Sammy immediately turned down the champagne, but didn't notice the ring in the glass. Josh told her, saying "I think someone's going to propose." Naturally, Sammy starts looking around the room trying to figure out who the lucky couple would be. Little did she know, her family was around the corner with their cameras and the lucky couple was them!
