FADE IN: INT. DAN'S APARTMENT - AFTERNOON We see a nondescript bachelor pad with haphazardly piled papers, towers of DVDS and CDs, and a music workstation. Dan walks into the frame. His neck cranes and shoulders round as he peers at his phone. CLOSE SHOT - DAN'S iPHONE Dan's finger launches the JSwipe app. After flipping through several profiles, Dan sees the photo of a strikingly beautiful woman. Her profile reveals that they have a common friend and that they both like The Big Bang Theory and Chuck. Dan decides to take a risk and swipes right on Lauren. DISSOLVE TO: INT. LAUREN'S LIVING ROOM - EVENING An elegant, tastefully decorated living room. On the coffee table are a few neatly stacked magazines and a Cherry Coke Zero. Lauren walks into the frame and sits down. Still wearing her jacket (only 70 degrees today!), she drinks the soda as she pulls her phone from her pocket. CLOSE SHOT - LAUREN'S iPHONE Lauren, too, opens JSwipe. Flipping through profiles, Lauren stops when she sees Dan's profile. No tiger photos or bathroom selfies. . . and they both like the same TV show, Chuck. She decides to swipe right on Dan. Suddenly, with animated chairs dancing the hora, the app wishes Lauren and Dan "Mazel Tov" on their match. Looking again at Dan's profile, Lauren notices that they have a common friend, Lenny. She gives Lenny a call. LAUREN Hi, Lenny! I just matched with this guy on JSwipe, and it says you're friends on Facebook. His name's Dan Levin. . . he's not some sort of serial killer, is he? LENNY Dan, um, he's cool. I mean, most Eagles fans are harmless. No need to worry. DISSOLVE TO: INT. COFFEE SHOP - EVENING Lauren and Dan smile and talk excitedly. DAN'S POV - SLOW MOTION Her hair gently tossed by the breeze, Lauren is simply radiant. NARRATOR (V.O.) And with that date began The story of Lauren and Dan Who found that an app Provided the map To a love that no one could plan. IRIS OUT
One sunny Saturday afternoon, Dan took Lauren for a picnic* at scenic Lake Balboa in Encino. Lauren, however, was suspicious. They were supposed to be going to a graduation dinner at 6pm. . .so why would they be having a picnic at 3pm? Lauren's suspicions were heightened when, as they headed to a spot near the lake, she noticed Dan carrying a cooler. . . in addition to the food they were already carrying. After they chose their spot and began laying out the items for the picnic, Dan retrieved a portable speaker from the cooler, turned it on, and triggered it to play a piano accompaniment. To that accompaniment, he sang to Lauren a song he had composed specifically for the occasion, a proposal song called "Something So Right." Dan arranged a duet version of the song (featuring vocals by Molly Pease and Jake Asaro) for their first dance at the wedding: https://soundcloud.com/daniellevinmusic/something-so-right After the song (which an airplane rudely tried to interrupt), Dan got on one knee and proposed. Lauren said, "Of course," and the rest is history. *Said "picnic" was, of course, catered by Corner Bakery Cafe, the LaurDan go-to spot. Lauren was quite offended when the Lake Balboa ducks refused to eat the Corner Bakery potato chips she generously gave them. It was only after they left that they noticed a sign, telling them, um, not to feed the ducks.
