On their 2022 road trip, Erik schemed to propose at Acadia National Park in Maine, atop the summit of Cadillac Mountain, where the sun first strikes terra firma within the continental United State. To get there in time for sunrise, they slept for a total of 3 hours before waking up at 2AM to hike straight up the mountain, under the moonlight of a nearly full moon. Despite our leg aches and headlamps running out of battery, they managed to make it to the summit with just a few minutes to spare. As the sun rose over the horizon, Erik got down on one knee and asked Haley to marry him. On one side of them there was the most spectacular sunrise, and on the other side was a double rainbow. It was truly magical.
The family land in Hiawassee, nestled in a valley within the Blue Ridge Mountains, is a heritage site for the Adkins side of Erik's family since the '50s. Erik has visited almost yearly since he can remember, reveling in the beauty of mostly unspoiled wilderness of the Nantahala National Forest. After many trips there together, Haley has fallen in love with the area almost as much as she has for Erik. So many memories have been made - laughing until we cry while playing charades in the cabin, simultaneously stargazing and watching the most dazzling firefly display, or simply just meditating on the beauty of life at the waterfall down the road. This is a divine piece of land that we wish to share with everyone.
A tale as old as time... working in the same restaurant together. Haley as the dazzling charismatic hostess and Erik the dishwasher listening to men with anger issues cook vegan meals. After eyeballing each other for several months, Erik asked her to hang out some time shortly after he left the restaurant for a better job. Haley invited him to come fly aircraft at her family flight simulation company and after he crashed a 747 into the Orlando power plant, they knew that they would continue to have fun together.
