Our story begins in the West Texas town of El Paso, where Eric and I met. At the time, we worked side-by-side as Platoon Leaders. Our stint as fellow Platoon Leaders only lasted a few months because Eric changed positions to work at Squadron. A few more months went by, until we ended-up working together again on the night shift as planners for a training event. I asked Eric to help me prepare for a briefing, and Eric agreed and walked me through everything. And to my surprise - at 3:00 o’clock in the morning, after the work was complete - Eric asked if he could take me to dinner. Through the year that followed, we traveled and explored most of the southwest. We saw the sunrise over Albuquerque from a hot-air-balloon, kayaked down the Rio Grande, and rode horseback next to the Franklin Mountains. Our adventures quickly expanded beyond the southwest as we headed east and walked the riverwalk in San Antonio, explored Bourbon Street in New Orleans, and paddle-boarded through the Great Smokey Mountains in Asheville. And even when the Army sent-us away for training, we still found ways to make memories - including when Eric used Night Vision Goggles (NVGs) to find me in the middle of the Mojave Dessert where we gazed at stars and talked for several hours. Today, we continue to find adventures wherever the Army takes us. We witnessed the beauty of Niagara Falls, parasailed in Pensacola, and made our first home in Alabama. Although we may not know where the Army will send us next, we are excited to share this world-wide adventure together. The Proposal At the end of our time together in El Paso, Eric moved to Virginia for a military school, and I went on a 9 month rotation to Europe. During the time apart, we exchanged letters and talked over FaceTime almost every day, until Eric came to visit over Christmas. Eric arranged for us to have dinner with our friends from the unit at Restauracja Jabłona, a restaurant next to the lake in Powidz, Poland. After we parked, Eric guided me around the restaurant to the patio behind the restaurant, where I found lights, flowers, and a “Marry Me” sign. Over the following week, we traveled to Krakow for a few days to celebrate our first Christmas together as an engaged couple and get our engagement photos done (also another surprise that he coordinated from the other side of the world), as well as, explore the Christmas markets in Gniezno and Warsaw. Now over a year and a half later, we are so excited to get married surrounded by our friends and family, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds as Mr. & Mrs. Wasek.
