It was April 2020, the world was thriving. Eric and Kellie were just two people on Hinge during a global pandemic. One day Eric reached out to Kellie on the dating app, and luckily for Eric, Kellie matched with him. After some standard back and forth, the big first date was set. Dinner, in our respective houses, over Zoom. It was a glorious virtual experience. We talked, we did our own rendition of MTV Cribs, and the rest was history from there.
Three dogs, two people, and one horse. The plan was to mask the proposal as a photo shoot for our Christmas card. It was a beautiful day and everything was timed perfectly. We showed up at Kellie's barn, grabbed all the animals, and headed for the scenic hills of the property. The sun was setting, the weather flawless, and that is when things took a turn. Dogs attacked horses. Dogs attacked people. Just when things seemed to be settling, the barn owner and Kellie's long time friend's daughter, Maddie, came down to check on us and see what all the ruckus was about. Not sure what to do, Eric waited things out, but with each passing minute, the sun was setting and daylight was disappearing. Determined to make things happen at that time, Eric set up his phone, let Maddie know she was going to be part of a big moment, and got down on one knee. It was perfectly imperfect. Maddie headed back up to the barn, letting us bask in the glow for a bit. Once we all made the hike back to the barn, she and her dad were waiting with a bottle a of wine and two glasses for us to celebrate!
