Alex and Era expect to arrive Wednesday (July 13) and leave Tuesday (July 19). We encourage you to come Thursday to Sunday / Monday, if you can (or longer!). There will be a welcome cocktail gathering Thursday and a brunch on Sunday — we hope you’re able to join us for both! Please do let us know your dates once you have your flight.
YES! Please bring your spouse / significant other / special person.
Since we now have a little one of our own, children are invited. Because the wedding is at a manor house, we are expecting to get a babysitter (or a couple if needed) to watch any babies / toddlers at the house during the reception that will take place on the property (in the garden with dancing in the barn). Please let us know if you are bringing a child so we can plan accordingly.
There are three ways think about accommodations: staying on Ponta Delgada (main town, with lots of hotel options), staying by the wedding venue (Sete Cidades, small village surrounded by nature with some but limited hotel/villa options), or AirBnBs (lots and lots of options, particularly if you want to be by the beach or woudl like a villa that you want to share with others). See the Travel section of the website for more insight. The island is small and while we encourage guests to stay in Ponta Delgada or by the wedding venue, if you're renting a car you really could stay anywhere.
We will be providing shuttle service from Ponta Delgada to the ceremony venue (about 30 minutes away) for those staying in Ponta Delgada. With that being said, we would recommend renting a car if you would like to see the island. Gas is very expensive, so we would also recommend driving a fuel efficient car. Driving is very easy, the roads are not crowded and in good condition. One thing to note is that manual transmission cars are much more readily available and cheaper than automatics. If you plan to rent an automatic, book well in advance. Ride share services do not operate on Sao Miguel, so otherwise you will be using taxis.
As part of Portugal, the Azores use the Euro as the base currency.
Credit cards are widely accepted, but it would be a good idea to carry cash on hand for those instances where they are not.
English is spoken by many people in the hospitality and restaurant industries. Outside of those, English is still widely used with tourists. Monoliguals should not have many issues communicating or getting around.
Temperatures should be in the 60s-70s range with occasional rain. June is a dry month for Sao Miguel but rain is always a possibility. Temperature and conditions also change as the altitude changes. Sete Citades is in a valley, but requires traversing up and over a mountain where cooler wetter temperatures exist. Many of the scenic areas are at higher altitude and will be slightly cooler. https://www.holiday-weather.com/ponta_delgada/averages/june/
We do not have a registry. You presence on our special day is the best present we could ask for. See you in the Azores!
