Our love story

#schmidtsgettingreal

The Background… Chris and I were set up on a blind date nearly four years ago by Chris’s best friend Andy. We both had been on and off with prior relationships but were both taking breaks at that time. I attended a co-workers wedding in August when my friend and co-worker Dana, Andy’s girlfriend, showed me a facebook picture of a guy and goes “this guy thinks you’re cute and wants to date you!” I thought well that’s weird, then saw the picture and said “why would someone that cute be single? Nah, I’m good, I might get back with my ex.” Dana said alright and left it at that for the time being. After the wedding, Andy told Chris about meeting me, showed him my picture and Chris told him I was hot! Andy told Chris I was planning to get back together with my ex and the possible relationship was put on-hold. Meanwhile Dana kept putting a bug in my ear about this Chris guy and how nice he was and how she could see something between the two of us happening. A couple months later, I was complaining about being done with my ex and Dana brought up that Chris was still single and that him and I should go on a date. I told her I am not good with talking to and meeting people I don’t know - he lives in Manitowoc for heaven sakes! Kathy, a co-worker of ours, was listening and asked Dana to see a picture of Chris. She agreed with Dana and told me I needed to upgrade my relationship because I was a CT Tech now and we have high standards! I take this into consideration but tell Dana I will think about Chris and let her know if I’m even interested. After this, Dana told Andy about what I had said, and Andy told Chris to add me on facebook and talk to me that way because I don’t talk to random people I don’t know. And BOOM! All of a sudden I received a friend request from this Chris guy. His opening line was “Hey Dana told me you were pretty nervous to talk to me, so I figured I would say hi.” I thought Dana, that B! But I gave in and started talking with him.

Part 2

After one week of facebook chatting, Chris gave me his number because he said it was easier to text than facebook message. Chris wanted to go on a date but I told him I didn’t like dates, so he suggested going on a double date with Andy and Dana to a haunted house in Green Bay. I HATE haunted houses but agreed. I wasn’t sure how this date was going to end up, so I told my sister I was going to Dana’s house in Manitowoc and then we were going to a haunted house and would be home late. I was very nervous to meet Chris for the first time – everyone knows I mix up and jar my words when nervous. I told Dana I needed some liquid encouragement before our date so we went to Buffalo Wild Wings – two beers and five shots later, I was ready to meet Chris! We met up with Chris and Andy, and were off to Terror on the Fox in Green Bay where it all happened. Chris had some game, taking me to a scary place where I would HAVE to hang onto him and hide behind him. As I was driving home, I received the cutest text from Chris saying how much fun he had and hopes to do it again soon! I knew at that point he was something special. We talked every day since and two weeks later Chris asked me to be his girlfriend. I replied with “Are you sure? You don’t even know me!” Chris reassured me and said “Yes, that’s why we would be boyfriend/girlfriend to get to know each other.” Two years later, on Christmas Eve, Chris got down on one knee and proposed to me which of course I said Yes! I knew he was the one since our second date at Lakefront Brewery, when he showed up late but I wasn’t even mad at him for being late. And the rest is history!
