How We Met

August 10, 2018

Angel and I met back in 2018 when we attended our Transfer Orientation session at the University of California, Davis. We were both pursuing our Chicana/o Studies degree and happened to be the only two incoming students of that major at that specific Orientation date. During the lunch hour, there was an empty seat next to Angel, and I asked him if I could sit next to him. From there, we spent the rest of the session getting to know each other and sharing stories about our fears and nerves in regards to moving away from home and coming to UC Davis. A few months went by and we ended up taking our first class at Davis together. During this class is when the friendship and attraction started to develop and we found ourselves walking with each other out of class to our next responsibilities for the day every single day we had that class. On October 31, 2018 (yes, he asked me out on Halloween, lol), he asked me if I would "be his Boo" (cause Halloween and all the cheese, right?) and I happily said yes. With a lot of fun dates around Davis together, we created many great memories over the past three years. One of my favorites being in June of 2019 when we adopted our wheelchair and diaper-wearing corgi, Halibut! Flash forward and we both have graduated with our degrees from UC Davis and are currently studying and preparing for Graduate School.

The Proposal!

Butterflies

Angel popped the question on June 20, 2020 in the Butterfly Garden at Balboa Park in San Diego, California. This choice of engagement spot could not have been more perfect! We have always talked about wanting to move to San Diego someday to start a family together, so having our engagement take place in a space that was representative of officially starting our lives together there meant so much to me. Another reason this was so special was because we met through our major of Chicana/o Studies which is often represented by the monarch butterfly and its tie to the idea that people should be able to migrate freely. This was a moment that the two of us will cherish forever and I could not be more grateful that such an amazing man got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!
