We love hiking on the yellow trail loop — but the whole Palos Trail System is fantastic!
Swallow Cliff Stairs
Swallow Cliff Wood - South Entrance, Palos Park, IL 60464
We enjoy this popular workout destination, constructed in 1930 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. This 125 limestone stair loop leads to the top of a former toboggan run on Swallow Cliff's 100-foot bluff.
Lake Katherine Nature Center and Botanic Gardens
7402 Lake Katherine Drive, Palos Heights, IL 60463
Gardens, a small waterfall, short lakeside trails, and native plants galore. Boat rentals are available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for $10 per hour.
Plush Horse Ice Cream Parlor - Palos Park
12301 South 86th Avenue, Palos Park, IL 60464
We love to stop here after hiking in the area. Danny recommends their cookie monster ice cream flavor.
Harvest Room - Palos Heights
7164 West 127th Street, Palos Heights, IL 60463
Locally sourced breakfast, lunch, and dinner with plenty of options for all dietary preferences. Emily recommends their great defender tea.
Downtown Chicago
Chicago, IL
Downtown Chicago is a 45 minute drive from Palos Hills. We recommend taking an architecture boat tour or visiting the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Contemporary Art, or the Field Museum.
