Emily and Corey met on the dating app Hinge on September 13, 2018. For their first date, Corey suggested the Beehive, a cocktail bar in the Mission District in San Francisco. In true fashion, Emily was 15 minutes late and Corey was 20 minutes early, but Corey was a gentleman and waited patiently (which is a good thing, because Emily’s parents would undoubtedly agree that patience is a required trait in their daughter’s partner). The pair clicked right away - Emily was immediately drawn to Corey’s deep voice, blue eyes, and love for his family, and Corey to Emily’s extraordinary perspective, amazing beauty, and sincere curiosity. They spent the next few months getting to know each other through romantic dinners out in San Francisco, hikes around the Bay Area with Emily’s pup Mojo (Mojo gave two paws up to Corey), and an infamous Halloween party--if you know, you know.
Living together through the pandemic in an apartment with each room named after their favorite places in Maui (e.g. Hana for living room, Haleakala for office/gym, and Little Beach for bathroom), Emily’s and Corey’s love and bond continued to grow strong. When the pandemic seemed to ease a bit they planned a road trip to Utah, which was a perfect opportunity for Corey to finally “ask a question.” Corey’s original plan was to propose on the Angel’s Landing Hike in Zion National Park, but he brought the ring with him on the Narrows Hike just in case, which is an incredible hike through a river with waist deep water bordered by amazing canyon walls. There was a part in the Narrows where a massive boulder presented an obstacle in the middle of the river. Most people would go through the rushing water on either side of the boulder to get around it, but Emily decided to go over the boulder. Corey thought it was a great strategy and while watching her climb the massive boulder he said to himself, “this is definitely my wife.” A bit later they saw a more private offshoot called Orderville Canyon with a serene river, boulders, canyon walls, and trees. Corey immediately got an incredible adrenaline rush and knew it was time. He had planned an entire speech but all he could do was kiss Emily repeatedly while she sat on a rock, which she later called ‘really focused kissing’. Corey then stood up and had her stand up. Emily was still holding the hiking stick. Corey got on one knee; something that felt so right in front of her. His entire speech entirely disappeared and all Corey could say was “WILL YOU MARRY ME?!”. It was Emily’s turn for focused kissing, and Corey did not hear a “yes” for quite some time. After a few beautiful moments of focused kissing, Corey said, “you have to say yes!”, and in hilarious Emily fashion she threw her arms down and said “YES, I SAID YES ALREADY!!”. It was awesome.
While engaged, and although they loved living together in San Francisco, Emily and Corey decided to buy a house in Pacifica, California together. Pacifica is a laid back beach town south of San Francisco where Emily and Corey have easy access to beaches, hikes, and views. They now have a couple of guest rooms, so, if you’re reading this, you have an invite to come visit!
