Before Emily and Matt became significant others, they were ‘brothers’ ...of the co-ed business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi at UConn. Matt, a year older than Emily, was studying abroad while Emily rushed the fraternity with the hopes of being accepted. After Emily's initiation and Matt's return from abroad, the two started locking eyes with one another at parties and networking events. Matt was then elected President of the fraternity while Emily took on the VP of Finance position, leading to inevitable collaboration. It was all butterflies from there. But Emily was heading abroad to Florence, Italy for the upcoming semester, following in Matt’s footsteps. On a whim, Matt cancelled his Senior year Spring Break trip with his buddies and instead booked a flight to Europe to visit Em. He knew there was just something about this girl he couldn't pass up. They spent a week of magic, laughter, and love together and didn’t let it end once back in the states. And the rest is history.
A sunny summer Saturday. Matt put it in Emily's head that they would go visit his good friend who lives in Newport. In the midst of a pandemic, Matt manufactured a lavish tale that this friend was granted access to one of the mansions for the weekend given tours were on hold. They’d spend the evening there enjoying good company, food, and drinks. Hey, Brendan used to valet for those fancy Newport folks so he’s got connections - believable right, Em? Cue Em now searching her closet for something cute to wear other than her usual 2020 loungewear. On Matt and Em’s drive up to Newport, Brendan shot Matt a text that he was running late to meet up and to check out the Cliff Walk upon arrival to kill some time. While walking out onto the rocks just before sunset, Matt stopped mid-step and grabbed Emily’s arm. After reminiscing on their relationship, he dropped to one knee. The proposal was capped off with a lovely photoshoot and surprise dinner with immediate family at Bowen's Wharf. The plan went off without a hitch. And now we're getting hitched!
