Emily and Mason met in Lubbock while Mason was visiting his best friend Brandon at Texas Tech (the best man). Emily came over to Brandon's house to pick up Haley (the maid of honor) after a long day of tailgating, and she caught Mason's eye. He then asked for Emily's number from her other roommate and began texting her in November 2019. They continued to casually talk but they were 10 hours apart and Emily did not want a long distance relationship. It was Valentine's Day when Mason decided to send flowers to her apartment that Emily began to fall hard for Mason. In March Emily's spring break trip to Las Vegas was cancelled due to COVID. It was then, Emily and her friends decided to go to Mason's Lakehouse instead. This would be the first time the couple had seen each other in person since meeting in November. For Emily there was an instant connection from the first hug Mason gave her when she arrived. 24 hours later Mason asked Emily to be his girlfriend, at first she said "no" (but only because he seemed too good to be true). The next day Emily told Mason she was in love with him, his response was "you love me, but won't be my girlfriend?" Emily then told Mason to ask her again. By the end of spring break all college campuses had closed for the semester and we went online. This meant Emily would only be 2 hours from Mason. The two became inseparable with Emily spending more and more time in Houston until she eventually made the official move to Houston in May of 2021.
