Koby and Emily's brother, Sam, became friends in middle school band class. When they moved onto high school, they joined marching band. Emily and Koby first met at a marching band competition when Emily was in 7th grade and Koby was a freshman. They really got to know each other when she joined marching band two years later! Emily and Koby were friends for roughly a year before they officially began dating on July 15, 2014.

Emily and Koby went for a scenic walk at Lake Ann in Chanhassen, Minnesota. They were finishing taking pictures together when Koby told Emily he had a very important question to ask her and he got down on one knee asked Emily to marry him!
