How We Met

Emily and Justin’s story begins the summer of 2018. Emily was home from school for the summer and signed up for a CorePower Yoga membership. It was her first class back when she was in the parking lot about to park and made eye contact with Justin as he was walking into the studio. Justin had been taking yoga at CorePower for a few months so did not recognize Emily from any of the classes. Justin walked in, put his mat down, then left to go to the locker room. Emily walked into the studio and put her mat down right next to Justin’s (without realizing - they believe it was fate). When Justin returned from the locker room, they started talking and instantly hit it off. After taking a few classes together, Justin decided to ask Emily out to get drinks after class one day. But because Justin hadn’t texted Emily before class, she wasn’t prepared (post hot yoga sweat - not cute for a first date!). She said no, but when she got home and told her parents what happened, her dad told her it was on her to make the next move because she had turned him down. Emily didn’t want to ruin her chance with Justin, so she mustered up the courage to ask Justin to get smoothies after their next yoga class together. Ever since that smoothie date, Emily and Justin spent the entire summer together taking yoga, going to the beach (Justin was teaching Emily how to surf), and getting to know one another. A beautiful summer romance. The rest is history.

The Proposal

As some of you may know, Emily and Justin had a Bali trip planned in 2023 to celebrate both of their birthdays (and little did Emily know, Justin also had a whole day planned for a proposal). However, the Universe had other plans for them because as they were checking in their bags at the airport, Emily’s passport got denied. Her passport expired in 4 months, but in order to travel to some countries your passport has to be valid for over 6 months. They had no idea. Emily and Justin were absolutely devastated to have to cancel their Bali trip and go home. Emily felt horrible, but Justin handled the situation with such positivity and ease (a big show of character), and was determined to plan another trip. A few days later they were on their way to Costa Rica. On Emily’s birthday (the second day into the trip), Justin planned a private horse back ride where they rode along a private beach and then into a jungle. As they were riding along the beach, their guide wanted to stop and take pictures of them on their horses. Justin seized the opportunity, asked if they could take a few pictures off of their horses too, and secretly showed the guide the ring so he could take a video. As Emily was coming in closer to take a picture with Justin, he gets down on one knee and proposes. The rest of the horse back ride and their trip was pure bliss and celebration.
