We met at church serving at a children’s sports camp! I (Emily) was not supposed to be there, I filled in to be the photographer last minute and Derek was helping out with cheer as they were short a leader. At a rotation in the schedule Derek came up to me and said “Nice camera” and that’s how everything started. After that, where you would normally find us is in coffee shops talking for hours. Rumor has it that days before the summer camp started Derek said ‘wouldn’t it be crazy if I met my future wife there.’ Crazy ;)
It was our 6 month anniversary so we were celebrating by having a photoshoot since we didn’t have many photos together. Little did I know, Derek was planning to propose! He got the ring and asked me what I wanted the photoshoot to look like and got to work. With the help of our parents and Derek’s vision they pulled off the best surprise! We walked up to the top of the property and I was floored!!! It was so beautiful, there was a picnic set up with flowers, twinkle lights and origami cranes! Each crane was hand made by Derek out of my favorite book, ‘Pride and Prejudice.’ He asked me to marry him, and I apparently said ‘is this for real?!’ and then ‘YES!’ Fireworks went off, literally. After, we drove down and celebrated with our families. It was truly the best day ever.
