Prologue

Before

Elsie and Connor *technically* went to high school together, although they exchanged about 5 words before Elsie graduated. They really became friends when they both played tenor sax in the U of MN marching band. 80% of the time they spent together was on the turf at The-Stadium-Formerly-Known-As TCF and 20% was at some tenor's shitty apartment. They always had a great time joking together on the field, placing stupid bets, and having way too much *ahem* Turkey Dinner. It wasn't until they both left band that they realized just how much they enjoyed each other's company.

Date Zero

January 14 2018

After Elsie moved back to MN, they asked Connor if he'd like to go to drag brunch at Lush. Neither of them had been to a drag show before, but Elsie wanted to seem cool and Connor was eager to reconnect with them! Naturally, there was a blizzard that day, but in true Minnesota fashion, Elsie and Connor went anyway. The show itself was pretty much unremarkarable, but they both had a great time - they were just happy to finally catch up. As one might imagine, the ride home was white knuckle. That wasn't just because of the blizzard though: both of them were working up the courage to ask the other out! Elsie was the first to ask (a theme!) and Connor eagerly agreed. Before saying goodbye, Connor leaned in for their first kiss. LORE: Since it didn't start as a date, we don't consider it our "first date". But since it was basically a date (like... we kissed) we decided this marked our relationship's start and indexed our dates from zero.

Stuff happened

2018-2023

Look, a lot of stuff happened. More every day! If you wanna know about stuff that happened in the Between Times you know where to find us on October 11th 2025.

The Proposal Part 1

May 27 2023

"I set out that morning thinking I would have a normal day with Elsie and our friend Noah on the Esplanade. Little did I know that I had already fallen into a Truman Show-esque web of deception! After meeting up for ice cream with Noah, we all walked along the Charles River enjoying the warm spring weather. Upon crossing a small footbridge over the water, Noah pulled out a speaker and started playing a song from Steven Universe. I turned to see that Elsie had stopped, and my heart jumped. They said they had something to tell me, but I already knew. What I didn't expect was for them to start singing along to the music! We sang and danced together for the whole song, and when it came to a close they got down on one knee and asked me to marry them. I said yes wholeheartedly! You might be wondering about the "web of lies" part... it turns out that not only was Noah in on it for months, but Elsie also arranged for more friends to hide in the bushes to take pictures. When we returned home, I walked into a surprise party filled with our friends from MN! I'm still amazed they managed to keep all the plans secret (or maybe that I didn't notice...). Thanks to Elsie's meticulous planning and the support of our friends, I had a better proposal than I could've possibly imagined!" -Connor

The Proposal Part 2

November 4 2023

"I already knew that Connor was going to propose this weekend (to be fair he told me to keep the weekend totally free). What I didn't expect was to be whisked away on a romantic trip to Portland Maine - our favorite weekend getaway. Friday afternoon, I signed off work and Connor let me know that our bags were packed and he had everything planned, so it was time to relax and enjoy a stress-free-no-planning-required vacay! After getting breakfast Saturday morning, we were making our way to the yarn store when we started to walk past the Portland Observatory. We had always wanted to go to the top, but since we visit Portland in the fall/winter when it's closed we've never had the chance. As I mentioned to Connor that we missed the Observatory again, he was waving to a tour guide who was holding the door open- just for us! I expected to be proposed to on this trip, but getting a private tour of a Portland landmark (when it should have been closed) wasn't on my list of possibilities. We reached the top of the tower, with the city and port illuminated in the brisk winter morning. Connor got down on one knee, and told me he was here for the long haul - he even packed a lunch and brought a folding chair (a little inside joke). Even with the gorgeous view, I couldn't take my eyes off him. And obviously, I said yes!" -Elsie
