Downtown Princeton

Downtown Princeton

Princeton is an interesting, walkable, historic town. There are lots of cute restaurants, shops and coffee shops, and the University is right in the center. Below are a few recommendations, and here is a link to a guide to the town: https://www.new-jersey-leisure-guide.com/princeton.html

Princeton University is situated right in the middle of the town of Princeton, at the intersection of Nassau and Witherspoon Streets. The campus covers 500 acres and contains many different architectural styles, from the 18th C to the present (something is always being built). You can schedule a 45-minute tour by going online to https://app.adoraexperiences.com/princeton-university/ or just wander around by yourself.

Getting to Nature

Getting to Nature

There are several nature preserves around Princeton. Community Park North is a 70 acre park about 1.5 miles from the center of town, with walking trails and a lake (not for swimming); The Institute for Advanced Study Woods, about 2 miles away, consists of almost 600 acres, with many walking paths and trails. Bring your phone or download a map as it is easy to get lost!

Coffee Shops

Coffee Shops

There are many options for coffee. A local favorite is Small World Coffee on Witherspoon Street, just down from Nassau Street and Nassau Hall. Excellent coffee and a busy atmosphere. There is a new place for coffee, breakfast and lunch called Maman, on Hulfish Street at the base of Palmer Square. Excellent food and coffee.

Food

Food

Princeton now seems to offer a huge choice of cuisines and styles of dining. For a real sit-down meal, Agricola or Mistral or Mediterra are good. For something more casual, there is a good diner on Nassau Street, a Taqueria (also on Nassau), a great cheese shop, Olson's, on Palmer Square, which also makes really good grilled cheese sandwiches, and Maman (mentioned in the coffee section). For ice cream, Bent Spoon on Palmer Square is amazing and Halo Pub on Hulfish Street is excellent.

Getting around

Everything downtown is walkable, Uber is quite reliable and we will have scheduled transportation between hotels and downtown on Saturday--see the travel and transportation tab.
