Ella and Jack’s story began in 2016, at Wofford College, where they shared mutual friends. Their first conversation was far from ordinary—Jack confidently said, "我可以说中文" (I can speak Chinese), catching Ella (a Chinese major) completely off guard. That summer, they kept in touch despite the distance. Ella had a summer internship in Honduras, unsure if she’d return to Wofford. Jack, however, hoped she would. When Ella came back that fall, they officially started dating. In January 2018, during Wofford’s interim, Jack traveled to Italy to study food and wine, while Ella interned in Los Angeles. They spent a few days together in LA before parting ways, and during a night on the Venice Pier, Jack told Ella, “I’m going to propose here someday". After Jack graduated in 2018, and moved to Charleston, the couple spent quite a few weekends driving between Hilton Head, Spartanburg, and Charleston. In January 2020, Ella made a big move to Los Angeles, and Jack soon followed. In March, as the pandemic changed the world, they found themselves 2,000 miles from family and friends, relying on each other more than ever. Together, they came through it stronger, with Ella’s beloved dog Prudy joining them in LA. They eventually moved to Marina del Rey, just a few blocks from Venice Pier, creating a cozy home by the beach. On June 3, 2024, their first night in their new home in Venice, Jack proposed on the very beach next to the Venice Pier where he had first mentioned it years earlier. Ella, who grew up at the beach, and Jack, who proposed by the beach, now look forward to getting married by the beach. And they can’t wait to celebrate with all of you!
