Question

Getting to Nantucket

Answer

As it is Labor Day Weekend, getting to Nantucket will be a bit a crazy, so please plan in advance and expect traffic. Please book in advance as ferries and flights will sell out. If you are flying into Boston, the Plymouth & Brockton Bus will take you directly from the airport to a bus terminal in Hyannis which is a 10 minute walk from the ferry to Nantucket. For those of you driving, we suggest you reserve a parking spot in one of the ferry parking spots in Hyannis. There are two ferry companies called the Hyline and the Steamship Authority. There is very little difference in price, and they have both fast and slow ferry options. Only the Steamship Authority has the option to bring a car over, but we recommend leaving your car in Hyannis as Nantucket has few if any parking areas. If you are interested in flying to Nantucket, there are flights available directly to Nantucket through JetBlue and CapeAir.

Question

Nantucket to Tuckernuck

Answer

Once you've arrived on Nantucket, either to the ferry terminals or to the airport, there are both Ubers and taxis available. We would suggest Uber as it is less expensive. That being said considering how busy Nantucket will be that weekend expect some delays and plan accordingly. The taxi ride will take about 15 minutes without traffic from the town center to Jackson Point where you will be greeted with a cold beverage and will be ferried over to Tuckernuck Island. Once we have received all the RSVPs and travel schedules we will share a consolidated boat schedule.

Question

Where to Buy Groceries

Answer

As some of you may know, Tuckernuck does not have any grocery stores, pharmacies or any store you might expect, so you will need to plan accordingly. We will be providing food for those coming to the rehearsal dinner, as well as a late lunch on the day of the wedding at the reception, but you will need to ensure you have food for any meals not mentioned above. There are two Stop & Shops on Nantucket. One is next to the Hyline ferry terminal, and the other is mid island. We would suggest bringing insulated bags or coolers if you would like to bring dairy or meat products onto Tuckernuck. Each house on Tuckernuck has a functioning refrigerator and freezer, as well as stove. There is drinkable water in each house.

Question

Where To Buy Liquor

Answer

There are two easy locations to buy liquor on Nantucket if you are shopping at either of the Stop & Shops. If you are shopping in town, we recommend Murray's Liquor Store, not to be confused with Murray's Toggery Shop, on Main Street. If you are shopping mid island, we recommend Island Liquors which is connected to the Stop & Shop.

Question

Suggested Grocery Necessities

Answer

We will be providing coffee and small snacks to each of the houses, but we would recommend bringing anything you would like for breakfast or any meals not provided.

Question

Suggested Packing List

Answer

As mentioned above, there are no stores on Tuckernuck, so please plan accordingly and bring any medication needed. There are beaches and walking paths, so we would suggest flip flops or water shoes, as well as sneakers. It can get quite sunny *we hope* so we suggest hats, sunscreen, bug spray and bathing suits. It does get cooler in the evening so layers are suggested, and electricity is limited so we would suggest bringing head lamps or flash flights if your phone flash light is not sufficient. There are outlets, so you'll be able to charge phones and use hairdryers, but it is limited. There are no washing machines on Tuckernuck.

Question

Activities on Tuckernuck

Answer

On Tuckernuck, you can swim, play board games, take walks, read a book and bird watch. It's a slower pace, and the best way to think about it is being off the grid while still having basic amenities such as hot water, refrigeration and electricity at night. Phone service is spotty, but there are a few locations we can point out that have better service if necessary. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
