The Plaza and Bent St. are the center of the historic district in town. The current buildings date to the 1930s, but the Plaza has been a part of the landscape since 1796. It's one of the main attractions of Taos, and we highly recommend it as one of the first things you do.
The Taos Pueblo people are the original stewards of the Taos land. The Pueblo has been continuously inhabited by the Taos Pueblo people for over 1,000 years. The main parts of the present adobe buildings were likely constructed between 1000 and 1450 A.D. It is an incredibly special and unique place that we HIGHLY recommend making part of your trip.
This is Maggie's go-to walking spot. It takes you along the Rio Grande Gorge, which is so special to see. There are tons of hiking trails, many of which are very easy and flat. It's usually not very busy and is a great spot to watch the sunset. You can also take the Lower Trailhead to hike down into the Gorge.
Taos Ski Valley will not be open for skiing yet, but it is a beautiful drive just to get there, and there is some great hiking! It will be cold as it's situated at an elevation starting at 9,321 feet, and there could be snow, so if you do go, dress warmly!
The Gorge Bridge is 650 ft above the river below. It is one of the most breathtaking places in Taos, literally.
World Cup has our favorite coffee in town. It is part of the Plaza so a great place to stop at if you are walking around there. We always get multiple bags of their beans when we are there.
A Clinchard/Sepeda family breakfast burrito holy grail. Mante's bacon or chorizo breakfast burrito with red chile is a requirement for any meat-eater coming to town.
Michael's has both of our favorite breakfasts in town, aside from Mante's! It almost always has a line, so give yourselves extra time or get there early! Maggie's favorite is the Hashbrowns with Chile (Christmas style, which means red and green chile) and Elijah's is the Poor Man's Eggs Benedict (also Christmas Style).
The Burger Stand has our favorite beer selection in town, along with our all-time favorite corn dog anywhere!
Medley. is probably our favorite Taos restaurant. Fantastic cocktails, wonderful food, and a really nice atmosphere! Medley. has vegetarian and gluten free options and usually at least one vegan option as well.
Our second favorite place to eat in town! They are open for lunch and breakfast. They usually have a few vegan options and Maggie's favorite salad (the Beet Salad). They also have one of the best pancake options: a gluten free blueberry blue corn pancake that is ridiculously good. They also have fantastic smoothies!
Wake & Take is one of the few fully plant-based restaurants around and a great spot for breakfast and lunch.
