Elana and David first met in the fall of 2014 as undergraduates on the Stanford Debate Team. Elana was on her way to a debate tournament when the team van made a special stop to pick up a freshman on crutches from a Quidditch injury. Over the course of the next three years, Elana and David became close friends. Two ER visits, three trips to the Santa Cruz Mountains, countless debate tournaments, and dozens of shared Coupa Cafe crepes later, Elana and David's friendship started to become something more. After graduation, Elana and David left Palo Alto and moved to New York City. For two years they continued growing with each other, traveling together, working together, trying new foods, and seeing new places. Over the years, they became close to each other's families and have learned from their cultures. Elana has helped make tamales, and David was a fierce competitor at Passover trivia. They borrowed each other's sayings, and sensibilities and learned from each other's experiences. In January of 2020, David and Elana flew to Maui where David proposed. Despite David forgetting to actually ask, “will you marry me?”, Elana understood the gist of the question from the ring, the beach, and David being on one knee, and she said yes. And one pandemic later, they are still excited to get married.
