Exploring Ashland

The Wedding Website of Edie Heipel and Joseph Guy
We are thrilled to share this special place with you and are confident that Ashland's history, natural beauty, and of course, Lake Superior, will make your visit unforgettable! We happily recommend adding a day or two onto your trip to explore everything it has to offer, especially if you want to add in a visit to the Apostle Islands. Here are some of our favorites:

Maslowski Beach

2524 Lake Shore Drive West, Ashland, WI 54806

Family-friendly beach on Lake Superior (named after Edie's great-grandfather). Don't miss the artesian water spring on the beach near the pavilion, where you can dig for clay to make sculptures!

Houghton Falls Nature Preserve

Houghton Falls, WI 54891

One of Edie's family's favorite hikes + where Joey proposed!

Ashland Baking Co.

212 Chapple Avenue, Ashland, WI 54806

Stop by for Ashland's artisan bread & pastries -- you won't be disappointed!

Prentice Park

Prentice Heights Road, Ashland, WI 54806

Tetzner Dairy Farm

30455 Nevers Road, Washburn, WI 54891

Tetzner's Dairy is a family owned and operated dairy farm located in Washburn, Wisconsin, where Edie grew up going to as a child. The farm features a small store that sells milk and ice cream that is produced on the farm, as well as other dairy products. The store is self-serve, where costumers write down the products they bought on an envelope, then put their money in the envelope, and the envelope in a box. Open daily from approximately 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Hugo's Pizza

221 Sanborn Avenue, Ashland, WI 54806

Simply the best pizza in the world.

Blue Wave Inn & Sandbar

2521 Lake Shore Drive West, Ashland, WI 54806

Cozy coffee bar with spectacular views of the lake.

Downtown Bayfield

Bayfield, WI

Head to downtown Bayfield (known as the gateway to the Apostle Islands Lakeshore!) for a lovely daytime jaunt where you can stroll through a variety of artisan shops, bakeries, ice cream and candy stores. Spend some time thrifting or enjoy the waterfront. Check out Manypenny Bistro or Greunke's for lunch!

Sea Caves of Cornucopia

Cornucopia, WI 54827

A hidden jewel of Wisconsin -- Cornucopia's Meyers Beach sea caves!

Little Girls Point

One of Lake Superior's top agate-hunting/rock-picking locations with an amazing beach and picnic sites.

Potato River Falls

WI 54559

One of the most spectacular river falls hike in Wisconsin (average of 30 minute hike with two waterfall drops).

Copper Falls State Park

36764 Copper Falls Road, Mellen, WI 54546

A longer, 2.5 mile loop with a view of the Bad River. Both moderate and easy trail hikes with gorges, waterfalls, and forest paths throughout.

Madeline Island

WI

Madeline Island is the largest of the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior, once a fur-trading outpost. Take the 3-mile ferry ride (25 minutes) from Bayfield to arrive in La Pointe, the only town on the island and the place where you can stroll through art galleries, small-town shops, and try tasty restaurants with lakeside views. Get your nature fill at the beautiful Big Bay State Park with 2 miles of pristine beaches or take a guided kayaking tour to see the island from a different angle.

Apostle Islands

WI

The 21 islands and 12 miles of mainland coast of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore host a unique blend of cultural and natural resources, including more lighthouses than any other site in the National Park System. Visitors can hike, paddle, sail, or cruise to experience these jewels of Lake Superior. Clear water, underwater rock formations, and fascinating shipwrecks make outstanding scuba diving opportunities and the park offers plenty of camping and hiking opportunities on more than 50 miles of maintained trails in the park. Island trails provide access to sea caves, lighthouses, abandoned quarries, old farm sites, historic logging and commercial fishing camps, beaches, campsites, and scenic overlooks.
