We've tried countless times to think of an elaborate story for this one... Do we say that Ed ran through a crowded Aggie bar on Northgate to buy her a beer? How about Ed rescued Haley from an armed robbery? Nope, Ed happened to scroll to Haley's Hinge profile. Haley had a video snippet from her absolute fail of a Ring Dunk and Ed knew he HAD to send her a message. He ended up asking to see the full video in order to get Haley's number - you can probably guess how she did attempting to drink an entire pitcher of beer. After several weeks of texting and asking mutual friends to vouch for each other, Ed picked up Haley in his Honda Accord with a ~stunning~ mustache and blue golf polo for their first date (the mustache was Kyle Heiner's fault- his Vegas Bachelor Party the next day required the guys to dress up as "dads"). After grabbing taco salads at Doce Mesas on Knox/Henderson, that was it. Hinge has a slogan "the dating app designed to be deleted" and that's exactly what these two did as soon as Ed dropped Haley off at home.
No one knew it would happen the night of December 17, 2022- not even Ed. For our one-year anniversary, the plan was to have dinner at Prego (the spot Ed asked me to be his girlfriend officially) and then go look at Christmas lights. Over dinner, Ed kept making jokes about proposing like "I'll drop down on one knee tonight," and "Wait, actually, maybe I'll propose in a few years." I was growing suspicious. When we returned to Ed's apartment, we started talking all about our families. We talked about how we appreciated growing up with our parents' examples of unconditional love... Then... Ed decided to walk over to his dryer, take out his clean laundry, and start... folding? Confused and ansty to see Christmas lights, I decided to move the process along, so I started to help him fold his socks and put shirts away. After a few moments of silence, I felt like something was on Ed's mind. To break the silence, I said "You know, Ed, you really gotta' stop talking about proposing. It's getting my hopes up!" Ed looked at me contemplating for a moment and walked to his closet. I heard him rustling around keys and opening a box, making me think "Is he actually doing this?" Sweet Ed comes over with his hands behind his back, the biggest smile I've ever seen on his face. I seriously could see his heart pounding out of his chest. Ed proposed right then and there in the apartment that would soon be the first place we'd live together. Best night of my entire life!
