Our love story began the way all great love stories begin... with a little friendly competition. I, quite frankly, had no idea what to expect as I entered into Corporate America, and Jalen, who worked for the competition, reached out to ask how my new career was going. Long story short, San Francisco's financial district isn't as big as one would think. Our paths crossed, he asked about work, and the next thing you know, we're stuffing our faces with Mac and Cheese and BBQ Wings (you've got to try them) at Ayesha Curry's San Francisco restaurant, International Smoke. And as they say, the rest is history!
It was right in the middle of the hustle & bustle of the holidays. While I was busy with work and planning out logistics for New Year's Eve, Jalen was much busier planning to pop the question. I was spending my birthday at work, but even so, he found little ways to make it special and romantic. He took me to a birthday lunch (everything's better with a birthday lunch) at a restaurant called Sens, which overlooks the Bay Bridge. He had set up the table with flowers, cupcakes, and champagne for when we arrived. We enjoyed a nice, long lunch and then he picked me up from work just a few hours later. We drove along the coast to a restaurant that oversees the Sutro Baths, where I had a very intimate birthday dinner. At the end of the meal, everyone was clinking glasses to follow heartfelt toasts that were given by my friends and family. Last but certainly not least, was Jalen's toast. To conclude, he said, "I have one more gift for you," as his mom, Gina, handed him a small, wooden box. I said 'yes' (surprise), and we all headed over to The View in San Francisco for our engagement party with all of our close friends. Best. Birthday. Ever!
