How We Met

Eason's Side: We first met in Williamsburg when we were students at William and Mary. We were both Classical Studies majors and were taking a class together on Greek Tragedies. For a group project, the professor put me in a group with Dan and 3 other guys. We had to perform a Greek tragedy. The boys wanted to do a play that we had not read in class, which I objected to (I was busy- I didn't have time to read a whole new play!), and we ended up switching to Aeschylus's Eumenides, per my request. I played Athena, the goddess of War and Wisdom, and Dan played a Fury (a god of vengeance). We decided to create a video of us performing it. I remember during the filming, Dan's acting was so over the top and he kept making me laugh and ruin takes! None of the boys in that group really gave me the time of day or talked to me, but Dan was always really nice to me. I remember him asking me to get together for dinner one night at the cafeteria (decidedly, not a date!), and he kept talking about his 21st birthday and how his friend was throwing him a party. I thought he was going to invite me, but he didn't! Which was probably for the best since he went a bit crazy that night I think! Dan's Side: Eason and I first met in class at W&M. Eason always had a very serious and focused academic face, and when I saw her in class I thought "wow she's a woman on a mission." Eason and I were put in the same group for a class project. I told her the idea I wanted to do and she promptly rejected it, without any remorse! I accepted her idea, and became the director of this video where Eason played Athena. I thought she was very cute so I was trying to impress her by being funny and talking to her a lot!

Our First Date

Eason's Side We ended up studying abroad in Greece together the summer after our spring Greek Tragedy class! The first night we all went out on a group dinner and I sat next to Dan and I just remember we kept flirting with each other. I don't remember when our first official date was, because we were mainly going out with the school group we were in. I loved his goofiness, how he made me laugh, how we bonded over Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and how curious and nerdy he was about Greek history and art. Any museum we went to he would hold my hand and drag me to see all the famous vases that he had studied in classes. Some highlights from that trip include: sharing a romantic kiss in the Agean Sea, only to be interrupted by stepping on sea urchins (OUCH), hanging out on the beach in Aegina, and him asking me to be his girlfriend on a balcony in Olympia. Dan's Side We hung out a couple of times in Williamsburg but they weren't dates. I think that was for a best because we became friends first. And then when we studied abroad, we started going on group dinners where we would sit next to each other and flirt together. After I asked her to be my girlfriend, we went to a group dinner in Olympia, Greece, but it felt like a date because she was wearing a cute black dress and I only had eyes for her!

When Did We Know?

Eason's Side It took me a while to realize he was the one. But when I got into graduate school at La Salle University, and realized that he would not be able to come with me to Philadelphia (due to his job), I realized I didn't want to be without him. I loved our life together in Baltimore. I loved being with him and building our life together. And the thought of being without him made me realize how special he was to me, how much I loved him, and how I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. We are long-distance this year, but I am so excited to spend our life together and to continue to build upon our strong foundation of love and support. Dan's Side When Eason moved to Baltimore I knew that I wanted to spend my life with her because we are so happy spending time together and being ourselves. I knew before Eason :)

The Proposal

Eason's Side: We went to Florida for a beach vacation in April. We were going to spend one night in the Keys, and Dan surprised me by booking a reservation at a classy resort. We went out to dinner at a fancy French restaurant on a private beach owned by the hotel. We had a really nice, delicious dinner with wine on the balcony with a beautiful view of the water. The sunset was approaching and Dan suggested we go down to the beach to watch the sunset. We went to an area a little set back from the water, with a nice view of the sunset. Dan said, "let me take a picture of you facing the sunset" so I turned around. When I turned back around to face him he was on one knee and said, "Will you marry me?" I immediately said yes and grabbed the ring and shoved it on my finger! He was crying and I couldn't stop smiling. He said, "So what's your answer?" And I said yes again! Dan's Side: I wanted to plan something special for the proposal and we had a trip to Florida already planned, so I decided to book a gorgeous room on the beach in the Keys and surprise Eason with it! We ate dinner at a nice restaurant, watching the beach from the balcony. After dinner, we went to the beach to watch the sunset. When we got there, it was kind of busy by the water...I didn't expect so many people around. Luckily, we found a quiet and open place next to a palm tree. Eason loves photos of the back of her hair, and so I asked her to do that pose. When she did, I got on my knee with the ring. It felt like forever, but she finally turned around. I asked her "will you marry me?" and she said immediately yes and grabbed the ring. I was crying so hard that I didn't even catch her saying yes. So I asked her "is that a yes?" and she said yes again-I was overjoyed!
