How did we get here?

On a cold November Friday, after a long week of classes in Madison, Marge reluctantly agreed to go to a party with a friend. She convinced Marge to go for “just one drink” at the Camp Minikani house on Bassett Street. David was also on the fence about going but when he got there a mutual friend introduced the two of them. It turned out David was her brother Dylan’s camp counselor from a few summers back. Their first conversation was about how David had met everyone in Marge’s family besides her. David likes to say that Marge fell for him when she saw him diving for a frisbee in the parking lot behind the house party. That, or she had already fallen for him years prior when she saw him in the cabin photo mailed to the Duffey house while Dylan was at camp. While Marge strongly disputes both of these accounts, there was an undeniable spark between the two of them. David was a fifth year senior who was graduating and moving to Minnesota in the spring. Marge was a junior heading to Australia to study abroad in three months. While it wasn’t ideal timing to start a new relationship, it spurred them to make the most of the time they had together before she flew to the other side of the world. Those few months were so much fun that they opted to stay in touch while Marge was abroad. The 15 hour time difference meant that calls would often take place while one of them was walking to class and the other was leaving a bar. When David decided to visit in June 2017, Marge flipped her claddagh ring to indicate her heart was taken. David noticed the adjustment within a few hours of arriving and they’ve been dating ever since. From road tripping the east coast of Australia to camping in Switzerland and moving to British Columbia, their life together is full of adventures. Despite the engagement, David is still saved in Marge’s mom’s phone as “David Counselor from Camp M.” We’ll see if that changes after he becomes part of the family. We can’t wait to celebrate our love for each other with all of you!
