The Hodelpa Nicolas de Ovando is a historic city hotel in Santo Domingo. While most restaurants and shops accept credit cards, it is best to have some petty cash on hand. Keep the bare minimum in your wallet. Please be aware of your surroundings as the streets in Zona Colonial, Santo Domingo are busy, maintain situational awareness when you’re out and about. As a general rule, minimize the amount of valuables you take with you. Security and local police are around on almost every other street in the colonial zone. This town is a port historic city. Beaches and resorts are 1 hour away in La Romana. Punta Cana is 2 hours away. Do not rent a car it is not recommended. Traffic is intense and taxi transfer prices are reasonable. Majority of hotels and resorts offer airport shuttle services. We also recommend for you stay in close proximity of the wedding venue. Traffic on Saturdays in Santo Domingo is heavy so it is best to be within walking distance of the venues. If you decide to stay in an Airbnb book an Airbnb in La Ciudad Colonial. This is a tourist area and Dominican Republic most historic town, it is very safe.
